The two temples you are about to visit are located on the west bank of Lake Nasser. They were originally located in a lower area where they were buried under the sand and also were doomed to be drowned under the Nile water. In order to save these Ancient treasures, the decision was made to relocate them. Therefore, the temples were entirely relocated in 1968: dislocated and reassembled in a higher area to save them from flooding. These massive constructions are a part of the Ramesses II building program throughout Egypt and Nubia. Indeed Nubia was a valuable region for Egyptians because of its gold and other precious goods. Hence, Pharaoh Ramesses II decided to build these two massive temples in Nubia in order to establish his supremacy upon the Nubians. Visit these two masterpieces with your Egyptologist guide and discover the history of this place and of the great Pharaoh who build them. You will have plenty of time to take memorable photos. In 1960 the Egyptian government decided to replace the former dam which was not high enough. Built across the Nile, the Hight Dam allows Egyptians to enjoy permanent agriculture instead of depending on the seasons. The construction of the dam threatened a lot of houses and touristic sites, such as the temple of Abu Simbel which was moved to a higher place. End your day tour by visiting The Unfinished Obelisk.
